![]() She had such a beautiful soul, completely in tune with nature and the environment around her. There is a really small cast of characters in this one, but you don’t really need anyone else when your protagonist is someone like April. The Last Bear was so easy to read, the words just flowed straight off the pages, and most importantly, I know full well that I would have absolutely devoured it as a middle grade reader and loved it just as much as I have adored it reading as an adult. The subject is a harrowing one, but the friendship between one girl and one bear, truly makes you realise that the small things we do to try and help each day, can really make a difference, even if it is just to save one innocent soul. There are truly no words that would sum up how gentle and lovely I found this book.
